Hello, friends and fiends, creeps and cuties... it’s been a hell of a year. 2019 tried its best to kick my ass, and if it weren’t for my amazing friends and family it would have succeeded. Apologies for the absence, thank you to those who stuck around - my personal life in 2019 could be summed up as “chaotic,” and I’m planning on putting the strength and skills it forced me to develop to good use. I wanted my first post of the year to be this recent revamp of a design of mine from 2008 - I was a senior in college back then! Inspired by mandalas and evolution, this illustration attempts to convey both the unity and diversity of life on earth. Bio nerds will notice the RNA, DNA, homologous structures and embryos, and representations of different kingdoms of life, from bacteria to animals. The redesign is simplified in terms of the numbers of petals and concepts represented, but the petals themselves are more detailed and even (shout out to @bummerbot for owning a protractor).
